Smaller Cell Size than recommended has a huge impact in the processor, possibly freezing the browser. Use it caution. Read More on "Help" page.

Help
Hide Bar
-Select which plot type you wish to use: Single Events, Heat Map, Cluster Events
-Select Data Source for region (Azores, Continente/Madeira, All - Azores and Continente/Madeira)
-Select a begin date - Year/Month/Day
-Select a end date - Year/Month/Day
-Click on "Static" to plot on map the events for select dates

*Every time the data source/dates/map type is changed is required to click again on "Static" to load the events based on new choices

*The events shown on map are searched based on the map view, if you wish to search events based on a location, example in São Miguel island, center the map view on the island, zoom in or zoom out to fit the island on the view

*Once pressed "Static", all movements on the map load events automatically based on the current map view
*Advanced - allows to search earthquakes based on magnitude and depth
*This is a testing feature*

To build a chart based on the events:
-Select plot type, data source, dates and click on "Static" to plot the events on the map
-Click on "Chart" button to open the chart window.
-Choose Chart Type (Bar, Line, etc)
-Choose which Data will plot (Dates, Magnitude, Depth)
-Click on "Build" to build chart
-Click on "Chart" button to open/close chart window.

*If "Auto Build On Map Change", the cart will be rebuilt when the map has changed (position, zoom), based on the events on map view
*Change "Chart Opacity", to change the chart window opacity
*Click on "Full Screen", to the chart window fills the screen
*This is a testing feature*

This feature builds fills the map view with rectangles (size of the rectangles varies from Cell Size), then for each rectangle checks how many earthquakes are located inside the rectangle, then calculate the average (depth, magnitude) or energy release for each rectangle and adds a colored rectangle to the map. If a mouse hovers the rectangle, a popup will appear giving more information about the rectangle.
Usefull to check which areas have a lower depth, high energy release, etc.

*This is a highly processor demanding calculation, the Cell Size controls how demading will be the calculation. Lower Cell Sizer, means smaller rectangles, so more rectangles to fill the map view, more calculations needed.
If a very low Cell Size is chosen, the browser may freeze. If this happens, a browser restart may have to be necessary.

Allows to get a list of events based on search area

To view a single earthquake information, click on the map to get a list of earthquakes based on search type (rectangle or circle) and dimensions (Table Search Size).
To view all earthquakes on a table, just click "Table All On Map"
Once the table is built, a window opens with a list of all eq´s based on the search area
*Clicking on a event in the table, will add a marker to the map for that event

*If you change the "Table Search Size", click on "Rebuild Table" to update the table
*Click on "Full Screen" to table window increase height and width
*Click on "Copy" "Excel" "CSV" "PDF" to export the current table to a file
*In the table, the column "Dist." allows to view the distance of the earthquake to the center of the circle/rectangle search
*Click on column title to order the events
*The range bar, allows to modify the opacity of the window
*If "Close" button is clicked and you wish to see events again, just click on the map

Allows to view earthquakes as single events.

"Size Of Events" - change the size events
"Opacity" - change the opacity of the events
"Magnitude" - How many earthquakes on the map view, based on the magnitude

To view a single earthquake information, click on the map to get a list of earthquakes based on search type (rectangle or circle) and dimensions (Table Search Size).
To view all earthquakes on a table, just click "Table All On Map"
More info on get information on events on tab "Events Table"

Allows to see number events on heat mode later

Radius

The size of heatmap area

Blur

Adds an blur effect to heat map area, since a heatmap is an aggreate of various heat sources, adding blur, adds an effect in which multiple heat sources looked to be apart of a main heat source.

Max

Number of events the heatmap should calculate an heatmap area. Less adds more events. More adds less events

Opacity

Adds opacity to heatmap areas, more opacity more visible, less opacity less visible.

Early stage of seismic web app with some ideas taken from IRIS EQ Browser and CartoDB.

Everything is build on Javascript (some help of jQuery) and few PHP scripts to speed up the processing (build charts, etc)

Since most of it is Javascript, it requires a good computer to process thousands of earthquakes. Testing was made to improve performance, but improvement is still needed. If you have processing issues, try to reduce the date range and zoom in on the map to reduce the number of events.

How can i view single events

Select "Heat" mode

Set "Opacity" to max

Set "Max" to min

Set "Blur to min

Set "Radius to a lower value

How can i view information of a single event?

At this moment its not possible to view information a single event

How can i view seismic events for a particular date?

At this moment its not possible to view per date, the web app works on month to month data.

Data Control
Check if months are missing (since 2000/01)
*Some higher magnitude events are added to ISC by other agencies, so that region may contain one big event, but lack smaller magnitudes events, because portuguese agencies didint update that month
